Custom Built Hood

Postby NCaudwell » Mon Dec 07, 2009 4:38 pm

I am looking at upgrading the lighting in my tank to the new Aquabeam HD 1000 tiles. To do this is need to replace the hood in my existing tank because it simply will not accomodate them.
I have a bow fronted Fluval Vicenza 180, similar to the juwel 180. the tank has a nasty black plastic trim all around the top of the tank and i'd like to know if anyone has ever tried to get rid of it or had problems doing so.
Also, has anyone had experience of trying to bend the wood at the front of a bow fronted tank and what advice they have for doing it. I have found some articles on bending MDF but would like to hear from others that may have already done this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mate,

I know you can get MDF that has notches on the inner face so it can be bent to shape - I think my usual supplier of sheet materials stocks it, otherwise I'd go for ply, steam & bend.

Cheers
